  • You see the error:

Failed to create snapshot: Error 3948

Resolution

This issue occurs when the name resolution for the VDR appliance is not configured properly.
To resolve this issue:
  1. Ping the target virtual machine from the VDR appliance console using both the short name and the fully qualified domain name.
  2. If you can ping the virtual machine using FQDN, but not using the short name, open  the /etc/resolv.conf file using a text editor and add an entry similar to:

    search <domain>
    For example:

    search vmware.com
  3. Save and close the file.

Note: You need not restart the services for the changes to take effect.
